Elyse Umeda

CrossFit

Elyse Umeda was born and raised on the island of Oahu. Her passion for an active lifestyle has led her in many directions–from dancing and gymnastics as a child, to playing basketball in high school and college, helping Punahou School to a state basketball championship and Princeton to an Ivy League title.

In 2008, upon graduating from college, Elyse took on her first CrossFit workout and immediately fell in love with the sport of fitness and eventually opened her own affiliate in 2011. On the competition side of CrossFit, Elyse was also a top female athlete in both the 2010 and 2011 CrossFit Games, where she placed 11th and 23rd, respectively. In 2013, she joined the team competition and competed with her affiliate, CrossFit 808, at both the Regional and Games level. Team CrossFit 808 qualified for the CrossFit Games five consecutive years in a row. In 2013, the team finished 21st; in 2014, the team finished 10th; in 2015, the team finished 4th; and in 2016, the team finished 24th.

Beyond competition, Elyse loves coaching CrossFit to individuals and groups of all ages and fitness levels. She is very passionate about helping others live better through fitness and nutrition. Elyse has her Level 1 and Level 2 CrossFit Certification as well as the CrossFit Olympic Weightlifting Certification, CrossFit Movement/Mobility Certification, CrossFit Nutrition Certification and CrossFit Gymnastics Certification. Outside of the gym, Elyse enjoys spending time with her family as well as coaching high school basketball.
